Project leader\u00a0<strong>Breda Robotics<\/strong>\u00a0presented a practical case study at AMTRA on the automated packaging of rolls. The successful demo session took place on\u00a0<strong>Tuesday 27 January<\/strong>\u00a0and was attended by\u00a0<strong>around 25 participants<\/strong>\u00a0from business, academia, and networks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-group twee paddingtopbottom3 has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<article class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bij\u00a0<strong>Biobakkerij De Trog<\/strong>\u00a0Rolls are manually placed into MAP packaging. This work is strenuous and repetitive, with high demands on hygiene and product quality. After testing various gripper concepts, a plate-and-finger-based solution was chosen, which can handle the product safely and accurately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, an AI vision system was developed for quality control, which detects, amongst other things, burnt rolls and deviations in colour and shape. The initial results show an accuracy of approximately 91%.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-group twee paddingtopbottom3 has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<article class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Positive Evaluation and Business Case<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The robotic solution is positively assessed for deployability, flexibility and future potential. Points of attention remain further robustness of the system and automation of product supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The business case is clear: less physical strain for employees, lower contamination risks, and better scalability of the production process.
