Terra Inspectioneering was founded in 2016 and specialises in performing inspections in confined spaces, such as storage tanks in the process industry. The focus is on non-entry measurements of wall thicknesses using drones. What makes the company unique is that they develop the drones themselves and use them in practice. They then use their practical experience for the further development of the technology. In addition, Terra Inspectioneering sells its drones to customers worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company will be working on the Weld Inspection category within this challenge. The aim is to be able to perform accurate weld inspections, detecting deviations from 0.1 millimetres. For this, Terra Inspectioneering wants to equip its existing drones with a scanner capable of taking these highly accurate measurements. Such scanners have been around for a while, but only recently have they become available in a size that can fit on a drone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scanner produces a point cloud from which a 3D model can be created. Terra Inspectioneering wants to combine this model with video footage of the weld seam and develop software that measures deviations based on an algorithm. One of the challenges is that this requires a lot of processing power and the speed of data transfer is crucial. Therefore, the company is also opting to attach the computer to the drone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To tackle this challenge correctly and deliver a prototype with significant practical added value, Terra Inspectioneering is actively seeking collaboration with involved asset owners such as Dow. What defects and anomalies do they encounter? What potential obstacles and contamination play a role in inspections? Terra Inspectioneering incorporates these experiences into the development of the prototype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feyter Industrial Services and Crombeen Robotics jointly entered the non-entry challenge. A few years ago, the paths of these two parties first crossed when Martijn Crombeen completed his third-year internship for the Technical University at Feyter Industrial Services. The company was impressed by his qualities and was keen to continue the collaboration in the future. That opportunity now presented itself in the form of this non-entry challenge.
