A strawberry sorting system has been developed to ensure food safety. In this system, strawberries are inspected using a camera. The strawberries are subsequently automatically sorted into two categories. Approved strawberries can then be sold, and rejected strawberries are disposed of.
What has been realised?
In the project, a gripper has been developed to pick up strawberries without damaging them. To achieve this, various designs were drawn up, of which one gripper was actually built and tested. A robot was used, programmed to recognise and pick up strawberries. Various tests were carried out during the process. It was possible to pick up strawberries without damaging them.
What has been learned?
The project group has learned to apply the working method called Fast Prototyping. This working method enables students to develop a concept into a prototype within a few weeks. The concepts were realised using a 3D printer, which allows for rapid testing and improvement of designs.
