Within the Interreg COBOTASSIST project, Breda Robotics is collaborating with partners such as Avans University of Applied Sciences, Fontys, Sirris, SyntraPXL, POM Limburg, and High Tech NL to develop an accessible demonstrator that shows how collaborative robots (cobots) can be used to automate post-processing tasks such as sanding, polishing, and deburring.
The aim is to support SMEs in manufacturing with the transition to robotisation, even if they have little in-house technical expertise. COBOTASSIST lowers the threshold for smart automation and contributes to more efficient, safer, and sustainable production processes.
What has been realised?
Three mobile demonstrators have been developed – at Fontys, Breda Robotics, and Sirris – each focusing on specific aspects of the post-processing phase. These demonstrators are designed to be deployed at companies' own sites, allowing for practical testing and learning.
In addition, a needs analysis was carried out among 163 SMEs in the manufacturing sector in West Brabant, of which 13 actively contributed through interviews and questionnaires. This revealed that deburring is the most common post-processing task, followed by sanding and polishing.
The project provides businesses with support through workshops, training modules, a voucher system, and roadshows. This facilitates knowledge sharing and makes the step towards automation concrete and achievable.
What will still be developed in the future
Over the coming period, COBOTASSIST will focus on further refining the demonstrators and expanding training opportunities. Inspiration sessions and demo days will be organised, including an XXL event in May 2025. Technological fact sheets and industrial case studies will also be developed to illustrate the impact of cobots in practice.
In addition, work is underway on communication campaigns, including a project page, social media updates, and a promotional film, to bring the project to a wider audience.
