Project information
On behalf of AVINO Aerospace, the project group has been engaged in the development of the Roto Inspecto; an inspection robot for helicopter rotor blades. This robot consists of a sled and a further developed robot arm, the basis of which was laid in a previous project. The primary objective of the project was to simplify the inspection process of the long rotor blades of helicopters, for which the robot arm alone did not have sufficient reach. To remedy this, the group has added a sled.
What has been realised?
In the first phase of the project, the focus was on cost reduction, time efficiency, and improving reproducibility. By achieving these goals, the project group integrated the robotic arm onto a sled, utilising established methods from the disciplines of mechanical engineering, mechatronics, and technical computer science. The result is a strong foundation for an autonomous robot that can be deployed for the inspection of helicopter blades.
What have they learned?
Within this project, project members have primarily gained a lot of experience in multidisciplinary collaboration, causing them to approach the project and the problem from different perspectives. Furthermore, they have built valuable friendships and ended each day informatively and positively.
