Project information

Within this project, a simulation environment has been developed to test the sensors of an inspection robot. This robot is used to inspect installations for defects in explosion-hazard environments. By applying autonomous inspection, dangerous situations can be prevented and the costs of inspections can be reduced.

What has been realised?

In the project, a simulation environment has been developed to read sensors from the EXR1 robot. Software has been set up to control the robot remotely with a controller. Furthermore, a link has been established between reading the sensors in the simulation and the sensors of the built robot. This allows the environment in which the robot is present to be scanned for obstacles in real-time.

What has been learned?

Within this project, students from different disciplines came together to develop an inspection robot. Collaboration was an important component between students with different backgrounds. By drawing up a clear project plan and conducting preliminary research, the students learned new skills. The project group learned a great deal about how a simulation environment can be integrated with the real world.
