
Project Information
Within this project, a robot has been developed to autonomously pick nuts, vegetables, and fruits from the ground in a food forest. This is a labour-intensive task where labour capacity is a bottleneck. By having this work performed by an autonomously navigating robot, this problem is resolved.
What has been realised?
Within the project, a nut-harvesting system has been realised which is mounted on an existing chassis. The robot can be remotely controlled via a controller to navigate through the orchard. Various sensors and cameras have been used in the design to allow the robot to navigate the orchard. The next step is to make the robot navigate autonomously.
A subsequent group has brought the task back to a simulation environment. In this environment, they have applied sensors (LiDAR) and cameras. Additionally, they have developed a dashboard with GPS localisation. The result of this simulation can be implemented on the physical robot by a following group. In this way, the robot can drive autonomously in the future.
What has been learned?
In this project, students from Curio and Avans are involved in realising a prototype. The project group themselves have drawn up an analysis and design with detailed drawings. The students have gained practical knowledge by making the components in the workshop. A good link between theory and practice has been established within the project.
