In this project, a sensor was developed to automatically register bird biodiversity. The task was to further develop an existing sensor so that it could withstand all weather conditions and was suitable for long-term outdoor use.

What has been realised?

The project team has designed a sensor that can automatically measure bird populations. Development began with a microcontroller and a number of individual sensors. Subsequently, a sturdy housing was designed in which all components are securely attached. Additional sensors, such as GPS, have been added to increase accuracy and functionality. The team also developed a new AI model that supports multiple algorithms, allowing users to select which data they wish to analyse via an interface. Furthermore, some sensors have been improved and a microphone has been added to make audio recordings for further analysis.

What has been learned?

The project group learned that something that works well in theory is not always directly applicable in practice. This has taught them to regularly test theory in practice so they can respond more quickly to any problems or areas for improvement.
