The “Solar-Powered Work Assistant” project aims to develop a groundbreaking, fully electric, solar-powered, autonomous robotic implement carrier for small (organic) growers. The need for this Work Assistant arises from the challenges faced by market gardens such as Tuinderij Van de Pallande and Herenboeren: intensive cultivation in limited space, a direct link to the consumer, and a sustainable, regional business model. Labour-intensive activities, such as manual weeding, pose an obstacle to the further growth and efficiency of these businesses.

Purpose

The main objective is to create an innovative electric robot for small (organic) growers, which can operate autonomously and is optimised for various agricultural applications. The aim is to develop an affordable robot, with a target price of €40K, by integrating the latest technologies with financial accessibility as a starting point.

Solution

Fieldworkers, a technology company, sees the integration of robotics as a potential solution. By deploying automated systems, repetitive and labour-intensive tasks can be taken over, allowing human labour to be deployed more efficiently. Collaboration with knowledge institutions such as Avans University of Applied Sciences, Vives University College, and ILVO contributes to the development of sustainable technology and enhances the practical application of research expertise. The 'Zonkrachtige Werkassistent' (Sun-Powered Work Assistant) has the potential to accelerate the transition to sustainable, automated agricultural practices and support small-scale growers in increasing their productivity and sustainability.
