Project information

In this project, a robot has been developed that can autonomously harvest nuts, vegetables, and fruits from the ground in a food forest. This is a labour-intensive task where a shortage of labour capacity often presents a bottleneck. By having an autonomously navigating robot perform this task, this challenge is addressed.

What has been realised?

The project team started by researching existing solutions and the current state of the robot, which at the time could only be controlled with a remote and autonomous driving was only possible in a simulation. Based on these findings, the team implemented improvements. They added a computer and sensors to the robot, enabling it to collect environmental information. This allows it to follow routes based on GPS points and detect obstacles using a camera. Additionally, the team ensured the robot could be controlled remotely and that data is accessible worldwide.

What has been learned?

The group discovered that a lot of independence was expected, which helped them to develop and strengthen their skills in independent working and project management.
