Project information
Within the Interreg Art-IE programme, a powerful collaboration has emerged between ExRobotics and VIVES University College, facilitated by the AI Robotics Lab of Breda Robotics, Avans University of Applied Sciences, and VIVES. The joint objective: to conduct research into SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping) software, a technology that is essential for the navigation of autonomous robots in complex environments.


What has been realised?
The collaboration has led to an in-depth analysis and optimisation of SLAM functionality within ExRobotics' autonomous robots. Thanks to the expertise of the VIVES robotics team — led by Jeremy Lebon and William Van Nieuwenhove — significant progress has been made in improving loop closing, simulation, and path planning. This results in more efficient and reliable robots that can be deployed in hazardous industrial environments.
What will still be developed in the future
The next phase of the project focuses on further refining the SLAM algorithms and integrating this software into ExRobotics' hardware. Work is underway to improve mapping processes and make optimal use of sensor data. Additionally, broader applications of the technology in inspection robots are being explored, and how they can contribute to increasing safety and efficiency in industrial zones.
