Project information
Within the Stimulus/OPZuid project ZorgBOTS, work is being done on innovative solutions that support the care sector with robotics. One of the most promising initiatives is the development of a washing robot for the elderly. This robot is intended to support daily personal care, such as washing, and responds to the growing demand for care and the shortage of care staff.
The project is being led by Mijzo, in collaboration with partners such as High Tech Alliance, TNO, and Tante Louise. Breda Robotics is actively contributing to the design, communication, and community building.

What has been realised?
A concept has been developed for a mobile care robot with an integrated Autonomy Engine. This engine includes vision sensor technology, AI for semantic perception, dynamic world modelling and behaviour prediction. The robot can navigate autonomously and perform tasks, such as docking with a hospital trolley.
In addition, a design session was organised on 30 May at Breda Robotics, where partners collaborated on the design and functional specifications of the washing robot. A virtual reality demonstration and a 3D-printed scale model are also being prepared.
What will still be developed in the future
The next phase will focus on testing the laundry robot in a care environment, refining the user interface, and integrating the robot into existing care processes. Work is underway on an API and GUI that connect to hospital management systems, and on an evaluation report that maps out the impact on self-sufficiency and workload.
The ZorgBOTS project also focuses on building a strong community of healthcare professionals, developers, and researchers, enabling knowledge sharing and upscaling.
