Within the Stimulus/ OPZuid project ZorgBOTS, work is underway on innovative robotics solutions to support the healthcare sector. One of the concrete applications is the development of a logistics robot that can be used to automate internal transport tasks in hospitals and healthcare institutions.

The project is led by TU Eindhoven, in collaboration with partners such as Venamics, TNO, Starnus, LUMC and Breda Robotics.

The robot is designed to autonomously transport goods such as medicines, food, and medical supplies, thereby reducing the workload of healthcare staff.

What has been realised?

A working prototype has been developed using a swerve-drive platform that can navigate safely and efficiently in dynamic healthcare environments. The robot is equipped with an adaptable rack and is offered in four load capacities: 100 kg, 250 kg, 500 kg, and 1000 kg.

In addition, use cases have been developed for autonomous bed transport, medication delivery, and specialised nutrition, including monitoring of intake and dosage. The robot has been tested in a hospital environment and is currently being prepared for a pilot phase, during which naming and trademark registration will also be finalised.

What will still be developed in the future

The upcoming period will focus on further refining the navigation software, improving human-robot interaction (HRI), and expanding functionalities. New partnerships and pilot arrangements are being prepared, and market research will continue to strengthen the business case.

Work is also being done on communication and community building via the Zorgbots.community, where updates and demonstrations are shared with stakeholders in healthcare.
